VGP Section Award For Service To The Community And Public Engagement

About

The VGP Section Award for Service to the Community and Public Engagement is presented annually to a Middle career or Experienced scientist that has served the VGP community by supporting the personal and scientific development of both Early Career and Senior Scientists and/or being involved in various public engagement activities aimed at creating an inspiring, sustainable, and  inclusive research environment. The “Award for Service to the Community and Public Engagement” aims at rewarding the work of VGP researchers to support both our scientific community and society.

Nominations

A complete nomination package consists of the following:

NOMINATION LETTER

A nomination letter containing the nominator’s name, title, institution and contact information and a one-sentence citation at the beginning of the letter. Letterhead is preferred.

CV

The nominee’s curriculum vitae, that includes the candidate’s name, address, email, history of employment, degrees, research experience, honors, memberships and service to the community (committee work, advisory boards, etc.).

LETTERS OF SUPPORT

Three letters of support (separate from the nomination letter) with the supporter’s name, title, institution and contact information. Letterhead is preferred.

Selection process

Any AGU member can nominate one or more candidates. The nomination will include a nominating letter, a curriculum vitae, and 3 letters of recommendation that address the nominees accomplishments. The nomination and supporting letters should describe the high quality of the nominee’s research accomplishments. 

2025 Nominations are due on March 27th.

Eligibility

Awardees must be members of AGU at the time of nomination.

Presentation

The award will consist of a certificate signed by the Section President,  recognition in EOS,  and recognition at AGU's annual meeting during the award presentation year
