September 2025 features the paper published by Bogerd et al. (2024): Classifying Microwave Radiometer Observations over the Netherlands into Dry, Shallow, and Nonshallow Precipitation Using a Random Forest Model.
The retrieval of light and/or shallow precipitation estimates from spaceborne microwave radiometer observations is challenging, especially over land. This study implemented a random forest (RF) model that confirmed the importance of high-frequency channels for spaceborne precipitation retrieval over land, while at the same time, the added value, when combining these observations with those retrieved from low-frequency channels, was demonstrated.
