TH45B - Emerging needs for professional development in precipitation sciences: Insights for Students and Early-Career Scientists.
Thursday 12 December at 6-7pm Room 207B.
Early-career stages can be challenging, with uncertainties surrounding career paths, especially in a highly interdisciplinary field such as precipitation science. This town hall, organized by the Students and Early Career Scientists subcommittee (ECSPrecip) of AGU Precipitation Technical Committee, offers a platform for engaging conversations among scientists in precipitation science to help early-career scientists and students better progress their careers. The goal is to address long-standing gaps between skills that they learned in classrooms and those required to succeed in future career opportunities. Three panelists from different career paths (public, private, and academia) and in various career stages (early, middle, and senior career) will share their professional and personal experiences working in the field. Under the AGU’s theme of What’s Next for Science, the panel discussion includes sharing their insights on what is current and future needs in precipitation science and how to improve soft skills such as oral communication, technical writing skills, or graphics. Q&A session is followed by the panel discussion to promote audience interactions, address their queries and provide networking opportunities. While the session focuses on precipitation science, researchers from all disciplines interested in career development are welcome to attend and connect with like-minded researchers.
