Dear Section Leaders:
We would greatly appreciate your assistance in an important
audience research project that AGU is leading to better support
the broad Earth and space (ESS) community.
AGU is working with Atlantic 57

the creative agency of the Atlantic, to think more deeply about
ways we can bridge science and society. Our goal is to ensure
that our members who work outside of traditional ESS careers are
represented in our communications, partnerships, and programming.
We are particularly interested in discussing this initiative
with members working at organizations – from technology,
aviation, auto, manufacturing, pharmaceutical and healthcare,
food and agriculture, data analysis and consulting, among other
sectors – that are not primarily known for employing ESS
talent. Preferably, these members will have had several years of
experience in the sector and are currently at the equivalent of
director or senior manager levels.
We would appreciate 1-2 members from each
community who fit this profile and would be willing to speak
with the Atlantic 57 team by phone for a 30 to 45-minute
conversation. The discussion would focus on how our content and
communications could better resonate with them, and ways that
AGU could give voice and representation to the ESS workforce in
these sectors.
The details (personal and organizational) of all interviewees
would be anonymized in findings reported to us by Atlantic 57.
Please send the names and emails addresses for the 1-2 members
from your community to Mark Shimamoto, Program Manager,
Organizational Excellence at

Thank you for your support of our efforts. We look forward to
receiving your referrals by 19 November 2019.
Best,
Artesha
