Also Lucile Jones is a recipient of the 2015 Union Ambassador Award.

Thurs. Dec. 18, 6:30-8:30 pm: Seismology Student Mixer

Seismology Section Students: Want to catch up with friends in your field and maybe even make some new ones? Come join other seismology students at the Irish Bank (10 Mark Lane; http://goo.gl/maps/PqlX6) for some drinks and free food. The student mixer last year was a big hit – we hope to see everyone again this year! RSVP on Facebook here!

2. Call for OSPA volunteers

If you are attending the fall AGU meeting, please consider volunteering as judges for Outstanding Student Paper Award (OSPA). We have 137 students who have registered for this program, and we need 3 judges for each student. As of November 30, we still have 317 judge slots available and waiting for you! (Thank you to all of you who have already volunteered.) This is a great opportunity for students to receive outside feedback on their presentation and to be recognized. When I was a student, this meant a lot to me, and I hope many of you will also fondly recall the experience.

Judging does not take too much time, especially if you are already planning to participate in specific sessions (you can judge student presentations in these sessions). You can sign up to be a judge and learn about the honour code at http://ospa.agu.org/ospa/judges/. If you are interested in being a judge but are having difficulties finding student presentations or have any issues, please feel free to contact me (ishii@eps.harvard.edu).

Thank you, and I look forward to making this another successful event with all your help! (Miaki Ishii, OSPA Coordinator for the Seismology Section)

Best regards,

Greg Beroza (President)

Miaki Ishii (Secretary)

Doug Wiens (President-Elect)

Karen Fischer (Past President)

Celia Eddy (Student Representative)
