Thank You for Your Support!

Thank you to all of our 2023 donors! Adopt-A-Float

Calling all educators interested in oceanography! The Southern Ocean Carbon and Climate Observations and Modeling (SOCCOM) project is partnering with educators to share climate and ocean science with their students. Participating classrooms will connect with world-class scientists, learn about oceanographic research, and name their very own SOCCOM float. Students will learn about float technology, explore float data, and follow the progress of their float as its movements are journaled by scientists. Visit the Adopt-A-Float page to learn more, and apply to participate today!

Seeking Climate Literature to Teach Students?

Climate change is multi-faceted, and for a K-5 teacher with limited time to teach science, children's literature can be an effective tool to ensure students are learning science and learning about our changing climate. This recent article from Time Magazine, "14 Actually Good Climate Books to Teach Kids About Climate Change" suggests 14 quality books for young learners. The selected books have been vetted by the North American Association of Environmental Education (NAAEE), and can be easily connected to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). If you teach older students, consider creative ways to use these books in your classroom, such as tools for cross-age teaching, exploring alternative forms of science communication, or as a hook for new learning!

The Distinguished Lecture Series in 2024

The Education Section welcomes Dr. Kim Kastens as she continues to be our AGU College of Fellows Distinguished Lecture presenter in 2024! Dr. Kastens’ current education research investigates the “how” of scientific inquiry––how we ask questions, how we interpret data, and how we use models. Her Distinguished Lecture presentation will focus on “Geoscience Education Research: What it is and Why it Matters.” Please consider inviting Kim as a virtual speaker this year! To request a lecture, complete a speaker request form.
