Biogeosciences Early Career Seminar

On 7 May, the B-section Early Career Committee hosted the inaugural Biogeosciences Early Career Seminar, featuring cutting-edge research from three outstanding early-career scientists:
  • Eric Levenson (University of Oregon) discussed how glacial history shapes permafrost and influences the distribution of lakes and ponds across Alaska.
  • Alice Puppin (University of Padova) shared findings from the Venice Lagoon, highlighting the potential blue carbon storage in coastal wetlands.
  • Qipei Shangguan (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution) presented on how differences in metabolism estimates derived from DOC and DIC measurements can impact our understanding of carbon cycling in rivers.
Don’t worry if you missed the seminar – a recording is available on AGU’s YouTube. If you are an early-career researcher and would like to be considered for the fall session, please use this link to submit an abstract.

Biogeosciences Section: Support Our Early Career Members

As the research funding landscapes shift, opportunities for early career scientists and federal scientists to participate in the AGU Annual Meeting are increasingly vulnerable. One way those of us who are in more secure situations can help is by donating to the AGU Biogeosciences section.

Your gift to the Biogeosciences section directly supports the section’s programming which provides students and scientists with professional and networking resources that advance the field – these include workshops, travel grants and scholarships, recognition and awards, safety resources, meeting registration support, and other opportunities for Biogeoscience members and the community.

AND - if lots of us give just a little, AGU will provide more funds to our section to do more good work. A contribution of $50 or more makes you an individual donor, which qualifies you for an incentive program that helps increase funds available for each section. Once we exceed 5% participation from primary affiliated Biogeosciences members, AGU will give our section additional funds for section -based activities. The greater the participation, the greater the contribution from AGU to our section.

We are committed to fostering the next generation of biogeoscientists, but we need your help. Please consider a donation today.

AGU Resources

Please continue to take advantage of these AGU resources to stay informed, to share your own stories, and to share your views with lawmakers:

AGU made a new page that has updates and resources for members impacted by federal actions, including science advocacy tutorials.

If you have been personally impacted - please consider sharing your story with AGU so they can represent the experiences of our members in their work on Capitol Hill.

Speak Up for the Earth and Space Sciences! Information and suggestions provided here.
