Criteria and Requirements
The AGU Biogeosciences DEI Travel Grants are reserved for applicants who identify as being from underrepresented or underserved backgrounds, have financial need, and who might otherwise not have the opportunity to attend the meeting. Qualified applicants:
- Are current AGU member of will become AGU member upon receipt of the Award.
- Have submitted an Annual Meeting abstract and must include abstract references number in the application.
- Be the presenting author at the Annual Meeting.
Top applicants:
- Will provide diverse perspective and have been highly involved in DEI initiatives.
- Will demonstrate how the meeting will benefit the scientists' career.
- Will present research that is of broad interest to the biogeoscience community and impactful.
- Will demonstrate that the award is important for the scientist to attend the meeting and that there is sufficient additional support to match this award.
Recipients attending the Annual Meeting in-person:
In-person attendees must provide documentation by November 2025 confirming that the US is authorizing travel from their home country. Eligible expenses include, but are not limited to, meeting registration, housing accommodations, travel expenses, visa fees, poster printing fees, personal expenses, etc. In-person attendees are requested to participate in the Biogeosciences Section-wide event at the Annual Meeting.
Recipients attending the Annual Meeting virtually:
It is assumed that virtual attendees will have lower costs than in-person attendees however applicants may still apply for up to 1,500 USD for eligible expenses. Eligible expenses include purchasing or renting technology (WiFi hotspot, laptop, laptop accessories, computer software), transportation to access technology, housing to access technology, dependent care, unpaid leave/lost wages, etc. Virtual attendees are requested to participate in the Annual Meeting program offerings.
Application instructions
Applications will open in mid-August. To apply, fill out an application form by following the link below. The application included demographic information, contact information, your abstract information, and a budget for how the funds will be used.
