Simon earned a degree in geophysics at the University of Frankfurt am Main, where he also initiated the GeoAgency - a liaison office between science and the public. He participated in international surveys as a scientist and embedded communications specialist. He was a park ranger at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and a substitute schoolteacher. Simon has been the Public Outreach Manager of the GEOTECHNOLOGIEN research and development program in Potsdam at GFZ. He is a certified Public Relations Consultant and holds a PhD in Communication Sciences from the Freie Universitaet of Berlin. Simon conducted teacher trainings in earth and environmental sciences and supported the press office of the University of Potsdam as author and consultant. He was science manager at the TUM and has been part of the GeoForum concept team at the LMU. His research interests are linked to the so-called critical intercultural communication - he looks at the interplay between indigenous and academic knowledge and is committed to a better visibility of ethical issues in science, such as the dual use dilemma. Simon is currently project coordinator at LMU Munich.
