Vote for Education Section President-Elect

Your voice matters, so make it heard by voting in the upcoming election for the Education Section's President-Elect! Your participation in the elections strengthens the Section's representation within AGU leadership and helps shape the policies that affect our community. Polls will open in early October and remain open for 30 days. Ballots will be distributed through email once voting begins, and the candidate slate with biographies will be shared soon.

To participate, we encourage you to join or renew your AGU membership ahead of the election.

Hunting for Gatherers - Seeking Volunteer Coordinators for Informal Dinner Meet-ups at AGU26

Enjoy bringing people together? We're looking for volunteers to host informal dinner meet-ups for section members during the AGU26 meeting!

As host, you will help coordinate a small group gathering, whether that is an early dinner for early risers or a later meal for those who prefer winding down at night. It is a simple, low-commitment way to help colleagues connect over a meal and share highlights from the conference.

We are seeking a few volunteers to organize these gatherings. If you're interested, please reach out to Laura Lukes (llukes@gmu.edu) to get involved!

Serve on the Outstanding Emerging Presenter (OEP) Committee

The OEP Committee is seeking volunteers to provide feedback to presenters, and we've made it easier than ever to get involved this year!

What's new:

  • If you've attended a meeting within the last three years, you no longer need to physically attend or register for this year's meeting to participate
  • Feedback is now provided to presenters before the meeting, giving them time to incorporate suggestions ahead of their presentation
  • As a result, there's no additional work required during the busy schedule of the annual meeting.

This is a great opportunity to support emerging presenters with minimal time commitment. Join the committee today and help make a difference! Contact service@agu.org for more information.

Observe the Moon Night is September 19th

In 2026, International Observe the Moon Night will take place on Saturday, September 19. This is a time people around the world observe and learn about the Moon together, and it is an annual opportunity to highlight NASA lunar science and exploration. The Moon will be close to first quarter – a great phase for evening observing. Last year, one million people participated in 129 countries and on 6 continents. This year, NASA celebrates the success of the Artemis II mission as both a step towards further exploration and a Moon observing opportunity.

Everyone, everywhere is invited to get involved! Participation can include hosting or attending an event, or observing at home with family and friends.
