AGU Elections: Cast Your Vote!
Make your voice heard by voting in the 2024 AGU election! Elected volunteer leaders work hard to represent the interests of AGU members, and each vote helps to give the Education Section a voice in AGU leadership and policies. This year we have Section level elections for President-Elect and Secretary. There are two candidates for each of these Section-level positions. The President-Elect candidates are Sanlyn Buxner and Elijah Johnson. The Secretary candidates are Simon Schneider and Sunday Siomades. In addition, our past president, Tanya Furman, is a candidate for the AGU Board of Directors. View the complete election slate here.
The polls will open in early October and stay open for 30 days. Candidate bios and responses to key questions will be available online soon. If you haven't already, we encourage you to join AGU or renew your membership. The ballot will be sent to you via email when the polls open.

2YC in the Geoscience Community
The geoscience discipline is widely underrepresented in academia, particularly in community colleges. Explore the benefits of expanding geoscience engagement in two-year-colleges (2YC) in this Eos opinion article. The authors assert that fostering partnerships throughout this academic community will increase diversity in the geoscience discipline, and improve 2YC educators’ (and their students’) sense of professional belonging.

Seeking Input From 2YC Educators
Have thoughts on how geoscience disciplinary societies can create more supportive partnerships with 2YC faculty? Fill out this survey, developed from the 2023 workshop “Fostering Two-Year College Collaborations with Disciplinary Societies” (more about the results of the workshop here). Your insights and feedback will be shared with geoscience disciplinary societies so they can better support the unique needs of Geo2YC faculty and students participating in meetings, workshops, and other activities. The survey takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete, and will be open until September 30, 2024. Share your ideas today!

Geoscience News in the Classroom: ENGAGE with Eos
The webinar recording for “Using Eos’ ENGAGE resource to enlighten students about the latest news in the geosciences” is now available. The webinar focused on using ENGAGE articles and resources in grades 6-12, and provided an overview of available resources, connections to the National Association of Geoscience Teachers’ “Teach the Earth” collection, and strategies to ensure the articles are accessible by all students. Watch the recording, and share in the community forum how you might use ENGAGE and other resources in your classroom. If you have thoughts on how ENGAGE can be enhanced, reach out to Caryl-Sue Micalizio, Eos Editor-in-Chief, with your comments.
