NASA Solicits Proposals for the GLOBE Program Implementation Office (GIO)
The Earth Science Division of NASA’s Science Mission Directorate is currently soliciting proposals for organizations to host the GLOBE Implementation Office (GIO). The GLOBE Program broadly seeks to create opportunities to improve understanding and stewardship of Earth’s environment, and the Implementation Office aims to support the worldwide GLOBE community by providing logistical support and promoting increased program participation. NASA anticipates awarding one cooperative agreement through this competitive ROSES-2023 program element at approximately $3.9-4.4M per year for five years.
Proposals are due starting in October 2023–visit the NASA NSPIRES page for more information about this funding opportunity, including the DRAFT solicitation, Q&A document, and the June 2, 2023 informational teleconference recording and slides. Please send inquiries to Amy P. Chen at amy.p.chen@nasa.gov.

Build a Bridge
Applications are now open for graduate geoscience departments to partner with the AGU Bridge Program. The Bridge Program works to promote equitable practices in graduate education and to recruit and retain students from historically marginalized backgrounds. Partner departments gain connections to a community of peer departments, resources for improving equity practices, and access to the AGU Bridge Program student applicant database, through which participating programs will be recommended to prospective students.
We encourage you to attend our virtual office hour event with AGU Bridge Program staff on August 8, 2023 at 1:00pm ET for more information on the program, application process, and an opportunity to ask questions.
Apply on behalf of your graduate department today! All application information can be found on the AGU Bridge Program website. The deadline for applications is 11:59 p.m. ET on September 20, 2023.

Geoscience Education Research: What it is and Why it Matters
AGU's College of Fellows Distinguished Lecture Series (DLS) connects AGU Fellows, known for their exceptional scientific contributions, with scientists around the world. This year, the Education Section DLS lecturer is geoscience education researcher Dr. Kim Kastens. Please take advantage of this DLS opportunity and invite Kim to speak to your department or program. The lectures are typically given virtually and last 45-75 minutes, including a question-and-answer period where students have an opportunity to interact with the speaker. These presentations are available to interested institutions, starting in August, at no charge.

Enhancing Earth Science Literacy in Schools
The German geoscience organizations GeoUnion and DVGeo call for a considerable expansion of earth system science education in schools. In this position statement, scientists outline the necessity of teaching geoscience to help students become informed global citizens and participate in public discourse on topics like environmental change, disaster prevention, and the supply of energy and raw materials.
The training of teachers in geosciences must accordingly be intensified with regard to earth system competence in order to bring the quality of teaching up to international standards. All members of AGU are encouraged to pursue this approach and to strengthen the geosciences in school education wherever possible.
