Education Section Role(s) and Service:
Early Career Representative (2021 - present)
Dr. Molly Witter is an assistant professor of instruction at University of Akron since Fall 2020. She teaches mineralogy and petrology related courses, which have considerable overlap with her volcanology and igneous petrology research interests. In the classroom, Molly pairs repeated practice with specialized equipment with activities that use everyday items and analogies to help the students find connections to challenging topics. Molly is involved with a grant-funded inclusive excellence initiative at University of Akron that aims to lower the accessibility barriers that introductory STEM classes present to diverse student populations. She is particularly focused on addressing the traditionally exclusionary nature of field-based research and teaching practices in the earth and space science fields.
