Urgent action: Support Greenland

  • 1.  Urgent action: Support Greenland

    Dear colleagues,

We are a group of U.S.-based professors and graduate students who conduct climate research in Greenland. We are deeply concerned about the Trump Administration's escalating rhetoric around acquiring Greenland. Greenland belongs to the people of Greenland. We hope many U.S.-based researchers who conduct research (in all disciplines) in Greenland will join us in signing this letter [https://forms.gle/csef7uCnU11yivKh8] to express solidarity and gratitude to Greenland's people, and to call upon Americans and our elected representatives to vocally support Greenland's right to self-governance.

We would be honored to include your signature (and if you wish, your short personal message to the people of Greenland). Given the urgency, we plan to share the signed letter and messages with our elected representatives in D.C., major media, and Greenlandic scientific institutions at noon Eastern Time on Friday Jan 9; however, signatures collected after then will be added frequently to the live public version here. (We also plan to send a follow-up email to early signatories with a template for you to send the signed letter to your own senators and representatives and urge them to act.)

Please share this message widely with any U.S.-based colleagues who work in Greenland and might want to sign.  And consider writing a (short and easy!) letter to the editor of your local newspaper while Greenland is front-page news; our elected representatives in D.C. pay close attention to their local newspapers as indicators of constituent priorities.

    Thank you,
