    Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to submit an abstract to the AGU Fall Meeting 2025 session H111 - On Parsimonious Mathematical Frameworks: Advancing Process-Based Understanding of Terrestrial Systems.

This session brings together Earth scientists across disciplines-hydrology, geomorphology, ecology, and soil physics-who are developing and using parsimonious modeling approaches to distill the complexity of terrestrial ecosystems. Whether you are using dimensional analysis, differential equations, stochastic models, optimality principles, or information theory, we seek contributions that demonstrate how elegant mathematical simplifications can enhance our understanding of complex system behaviors-such as scaling, nonlinearity, self-organization, emergence, and moreFrom theoretical insights to applied case studies, we would love to hear from you!

Contributions are welcome on themes including (but not limited to):

    • Self-similarity and scaling in fluvial and aeolian landscapes
    • Patterns in ecological systems
    • Optimality in resource allocation-from plant-water interactions to socioeconomic carbon mitigation
    • Nonlinear land-atmosphere interactions

    Kind regards,
    Shashank
    (on behalf of all conveners)
