Student Poster Competition

The NASA Astrobiology Institute is pleased to be sponsoring the student poster competition at AbSciCon 2019. As with previous AbSciCon conferences, this event will provide motivation, encouragement, and most of all, recognition to astrobiologists of the future.

 

There will be 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-place selections with awards of $1000, $750, and $500 respectively.

 

Eligibility Requirements

  • Participants must be enrolled in a degree program at the time of abstract submission (students receiving an award will be asked to sign a statement of eligibility).
  • Participants must be present at their posters during their assigned poster session.
  • Participants need not be present for the announcement of winners on Friday, June 28.
  • The award is intended primarily for students at the graduate level. However, undergraduate level students are also eligible to compete.
  • Postdocs are NOT eligible.
  • Eligibility is open to both U.S. citizens and non-U.S. citizens who are affiliated with US institutions.
  • If an abstract Is selected for an oral presentation, the author must choose between accepting the oral presentation or participating in the poster competition.

 

Abstract Requirements

  •  Only one poster (abstract) per student can be entered into the competition.
  • The student must be the first (senior) author of the abstract, the major contributor to the material presented, and the person presenting the poster.
  • The majority of material should not have been previously presented at another meeting.

 

Criteria for Selection

  •  Originality of the research
  • Quality of the execution
  • Impact to the field
  • Organization and clarity of presentation

 

Competition Registration

You must indicate on the abstract submission form that you are applying for the student poster competition.

As you complete your abstract submission, make sure to check the appropriate boxes on the abstract submission form to (a) state that you are requesting a poster presentation and (b) state that you are entering this abstract in the poster competition.

Winners will be announced at the conference on Friday, June 28.
