Engage with your Members

Section Leadership Page > Resource Guide > Engage with your Members

Section engagement is how many members find value at AGU by connecting with their colleagues, sharing their science and volunteering for unique opportunities that they cannot get anywhere else. There are several tools that AGU provides to the Sections to help with this engagement.

Websites
Every Section has it's own fully functional website to share content, communicate important information and recognize the work of it's members. Your section is free to customize your website as you see fit. Your appointed web editor, along with any other members of your executive committee will be given admin access to create new pages, edit content and share important information with members and the Earth and space science community at large.

A complete list of Section websites can be found on the AGU website.

Newsletters and Announcements

The purpose of Section newsletters/announcements is to communicate the work your Section and its members are doing to a large audience. AGU can help you distribute your newsletters and announcements using our email marketing software.

  • Requests MUST be received by COB on any given Wednesday. If received on time, the newsletter/announcement will be sent out by COB the following Monday.

We also have available templates that can help you curate important content for your members and get the word out about timeline deadlines, important news and Fall Meeting related information.

Discussion Communities

AGU has provide Section leaders with the ability to reach out to their members directly using the discussion communities embedded in your websites. To find the communities you belong to, go to your communities here.

Webinars
AGU provides GoToWebinar for Sections to host webinars on current topics. Invite leaders from your field to present their work to your members and the Earth and space science community. Webinars are a great way to showcase the work of your members and engage with others across AGU. If you have an idea for a webinar, you can find more information on the process here. You can reach out to your concierge with the necessary information and we'll help you set it up, promote it and provide an AGU staff person to help run your webinar.

Webinars are archived and uploaded to the AGU Channel on YouTube. You can find an example of a Section Webinar here.

Virtual Meetings
AGU has several dedicated licenses for Zoom, a virtual meeting tool that allows you to hold meetings with your executive committee, award selection committee, canvassing committee or any other group that you need to communicate with.  Simply reach out to your concierge to schedule an ad-hoc meeting or a recurring meeting for your Section.
