About Volunteering

Be Discoverable.

Volunteer Central is AGU’s homepage for donating your time, expertise, and effort to supporting our shared mission and goals. You can build and review your Volunteer Profile so that you are discoverable when positions are open. You can also view our current opportunities, including our Union-level committee positions which are recruiting in 2025.

Volunteers are Critical to AGU's Success

There are currently over 22,000 filled volunteer positions at AGU. Most are in publications and meetings, others are in the talent pool or governance areas of AGU. Without engaged members, AGU could not accomplish its mission.

Committees Recruiting in 2025

AGU Union-level committee members serve up to two 2-year terms, the next term starting in 2026. That means that in 2025, staff partners for every committee will be determining what they are looking for and will be recruiting AGU members to serve beginning in 2026. With 50% of all volunteers rotating every term, there are over 200 positions open for Union-level committees in 2025. Make sure that you are discoverable as they search by updating your profile, and fill out the job posting now to show your interest!

"I Volunteer!" Ribbons at AGU's Annual Meeting

Some of our current volunteers will be wearing colorful “I Volunteer” ribbons at AGU24; this includes section leaders, committee leaders, and members of the Board and Council. If you see someone with this ribbon, consider asking them about their AGU volunteering experience!
