Dear AGU member Colleagues, I hope you are doing well.
My name is Guchale Debebe, an AGU member and an Environmental Pollution and Climate Change Analyst based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. I recently submitted my abstract entitled "Atmospheric Deposition as an Indicator of Urban Air Pollution in Residential, Traffic, and Industrial Areas of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia" for consideration at the AGU Annual Meeting 2026 in San Francisco. As an AGU member from a low-income country, I am grateful that my conference registration fee has been waived.
I sincerely appreciate AGU's commitment to supporting researchers from underrepresented regions. I am writing to respectfully inquire whether there are any opportunities for travel funding, accommodation assistance, or other financial support that could enable my participation in AGU26. I would also be grateful for an official invitation letter to support my visa application should my abstract be accepted.
I am a first-generation university graduate, an early-career environmental scientist from a rural farming community, and I hold an MSc in Environmental Management. My research focuses on atmospheric pollution, including atmospheric deposition, acid rain, and urban air quality in Ethiopia. My work contributes valuable data from a region where long-term atmospheric monitoring remains limited. In addition to my research, I have participated in several international climate initiatives, including UNFCCC Climate Week 2025, the Second African Climate Summit (ACS2), the UNEP Youth Environment Assembly, GEO-7 consultations, and the Youth and Ocean Summit. Through these engagements, I advocate for climate justice and evidence-based environmental policy. Attending AGU26 would allow me to present research from Ethiopia, engage with leading scientists, establish international collaborations, and bring new knowledge and experience back to my country. Because of limited financial resources, the costs of international travel and accommodation remain beyond my means.
If you are aware of any travel grants, accommodation support, departmental funding, or sponsorship opportunities available through AGU sections, focus groups, partner organizations, or research networks, I would be sincerely grateful for your guidance or consideration. Thank you very much for your time and support. I appreciate any advice or assistance you can provide, and look forward to contributing to the AGU community. Kind regards, Guchale Debebe Environmental Pollution and Climate Change Analyst AGU Member Addis Ababa, Ethiopia northshewamolale@gmail.com
