Securing Sponsorship for your Section
The AGU development team provides sections with helpful resources to assist with securing sponsorship dollars from partner organizations to help fund section activities.

  • Organizational Support Policy - updated in 2019, AGU developed a policy to help serve as a guide to ensuring that our interactions with organizational partners are professional exchanges designed to benefit AGU and its members, the greater scientific community, the public, and the organizational partner.

  • Sponsorship Levels & Benefits - updated for 2022 - new sponsorship levels and benefits for Section sponsorships ranging from $1000 to $5000. Please reach out to Development staff to plan for any potential sponsorships over $5000.

  • Fundraising Plan Form - This form is intended to give AGU a clear picture of each Section's individual fundraising plan. The information provided will help us ensure the fundraising process goes as smoothly as possible and will allow us to help with coordination if needed. Sponsorship dollars should be used to support Section programs and initiatives; not Fall Meeting events.

  • Section Sponsorship Letter Template - AGU provides your section with a template that you can use to reach out to potential sponsors.

  • More Information - View the full presentation on 2022 Section-level Sponsorships including Roles and Responsibilities and an outline of the full process.

Section Incentive Program
In 2015, AGU piloted a donor incentive program that provides unrestricted funding to Sections based on the number of qualified individual donations to any AGU fund by the group’s primarily affiliated members.

A contribution of $50 or greater is required to qualify as an individual donor. This contribution can be allocated to any AGU fund, not just Section funds. Funds from employer matching-gift programs will be credited toward the individual donor/employee.

Due to Sections’ varying membership sizes, the incentive program will be based on the rate of participation by members primarily affiliated with each group as of 31 December, not the total number of participating members.

The program’s financial incentives are as follows:

5% participation from primary affiliated members – $1,000 contribution from AGU to your Section
7% participation primary affiliated members – $2,000 contribution from AGU to your Section
10% participation primary affiliated members – $3,000 contribution from AGU to your Section
12% participation primary affiliated members – $4,000 contribution from AGU to your Section
15% or greater participation primary affiliated members – $5,000 contribution from AGU to your Section
