January 2026 features the paper published by Filipiak et al. (2025): Assessing Dynamic and Thermodynamic Variability in Initial and Boundary Conditions for Snowstorm Prediction in the Northeast United States . During winter storms, relative humidity contributes the most variability to microphysical processes and precipitation totals; therefore, improved representation of the relative humidity field could improve winter precipitation forecasts. Check the website for more information and the DOI to download the paper. #AGUPrecip ; #ScienceHighlights
December 2025 features the paper published by Ryu et al. (2025): Evaluation of Precipitation Retrieval Performance from 13 Passive Microwave Radiometers Relative to Spaceborne Radar Estimate: A study using Global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation (GSMaP) . The Global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation (GSMaP) is one of the most widely used global multiple-satellite merged precipitation datasets. This study is the first to evaluate the precipitation retrieval performance from 13 passive microwave sensors used as input to GSMaP over both ocean and land. We identify several key factors affecting the performance of these 13 sensors, including channel availability, ...

September 2025 features the paper published by Bogerd et al. (2024): Classifying Microwave Radiometer Observations over the Netherlands into Dry, Shallow, and Nonshallow Precipitation Using a Random Forest Model . The retrieval of light and/or shallow precipitation estimates from spaceborne microwave radiometer observations is challenging, especially over land. This study implemented a random forest (RF) model that confirmed the importance of high-frequency channels for spaceborne precipitation retrieval over land, while at the same time, the added value, when combining these observations with those retrieved from low-frequency channels, was demonstrated. ...
