We would like to advertise the following session:

Lessons learned & challenges of applied tropical hydrology in the Insular Caribbean

Although the Insular Caribbean encompasses ~2% of the Earth's ice-free landmass and is home to only 0.5% of the planet's population, knowledge about the region's hydrologic processes, water resources issues, and eco-hydrological processes can serve to document and assist in managing the challenges that many other tropical regions are experiencing during the Anthropocene. Climate change projections for the Caribbean are quite dire, as these suggest among other effects, a decrease in annual rainfall combined with an increase in the frequency and magnitude of the most intense tropical cyclones. Therefore, propensity to drought, flooding, landsliding, and associated impacts is expected to further increase on these highly anthropogenically-altered landscapes where these effects have meaningful impacts on ecosystems and people's safety, interests, and adaptation measures. This session will compile socially-meaningful outcomes of research conducted throughout the region in topics related to eco-hydrology, rain-induced natural hazards, water and watershed management, socio-hydrology, and climate change.
