    Hello:

We are asking your help, as part of a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF), to help envision the future of near-surface geophysics and a possible Near-Surface Geophysics Center. Near-surface geophysics covers a diverse array of methods and approaches for studying Earth's surface and upper crust and is aimed at understanding all the processes impacting this environment. It has many connections to society around addressing climate change, responding to diverse natural hazards, and managing diverse resources. This survey will inform further discussions at a workshop in early 2022 that will result in a report back to NSF on priorities for research and workforce development, focusing on a Center or resources.

The motivation for this effort comes from the recent National Academies Report A vision for NSF Earth Sciences 2020-2030: Earth in Time. One of the recommendations in this report is developing a Near-Surface Geophysics Center to "enable novel observations that lead to new questions and insights" on the majority of the critical Earth science questions identified for the 2020-2030 decade.

Your feedback as part of that community is critical to accomplish these efforts and we really appreciate your time--Please participate even if you are not directly connected to near-surface geophysics research. Thank you for your input and participation. Please contact us if you have any further questions.

The survey should take about 10-15 minutes to complete.  All answers are anonymous.

    Thanks again for your help.
