Frontiers in Hydrology Meeting Call for Abstracts: Plastics in the Hydrosphere

  • 1.  Frontiers in Hydrology Meeting Call for Abstracts: Plastics in the Hydrosphere

    Posted 01-07-2022 15:23

    Dear Colleagues,

We invite you to submit an abstract to our session "Plastics in the Hydrosphere: From Source to Sink" at the inaugural Frontiers in Hydrology meeting (FIHM).  FIHM is jointly organized by AGU and CUAHSI and it will take place 19-24 June 2022 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, as well as online everywhere.

Session Description: Freshwaters contain substantial plastic contamination, which is an increasing concern for the environment and human health. Rivers act as a major conduit of macro- and micro-plastics to lacustrine and marine shorelines and environments. However, questions remain about the current and future sources, transport, and ultimate fate of plastics in hydrologic systems. In this session, we invite submissions that focus on the study of plastics of all sizes (macro-, micro-, and nano-) in freshwater and marine environments, from source to sink. Research using observations or modeling of plastic pollution sources, transport processes, deposition, and degradation is encouraged, along with work that incorporates outreach and stakeholder involvement and monitoring approaches.

Abstracts are due 26 January, 2022.

At the Frontiers meeting, we will also be hosting a community discussion on research opportunities to advance our understanding of plastics in the hydrosphere. The goal of the discussion session will be to generate new opportunities for collaboration and synthesis on plastic pollution research.

Please share this call widely in your networks.

    Sincerely,

    Monica Arienzo (Desert Research Institute)

Denise Delvalle-Borrero (Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá)

    Jesus Gomez-Velez (Vanderbilt University)

    Anne Jefferson (Kent State University)
